FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

My game crashes randomly
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Random crashes are usually due to an unstable sound codec that is on your machine. The best thing to do is to remove the codec or disable it.

To find out what the codec is:

1. Open Aveyond and play until the game crashes.

2. If a Microsoft error reporting dialog box opens, click on the link called "To see what data this error report contains, click here".

3. On the right side of the "Error Signature" field, note the name of the program listed. (for example, mmswitch.ax)

4. Do a search on google to see how you can remove the codec. (For example, do a search for "uninstall mmswitch.ax).

5. If you have problems figuring out how to disable or remove the codec, email me at admin@amaranthia.com.

My game crashes when it is loaded
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your Aveyond.exe file may be corrupt. Uninstall Aveyond, re-download it and re-install it.

If I uninstall Aveyond, will I have to re-register the game?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope! Your computer always knows Aveyond is registered after the deed is done. If you see a registration screen pop up, you may have registered Aveyond at another game site. Go to that site and redownload the game.

My saved game won't load
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you get an error when you try to load your save game file, the saved game has been corrupted. There isn't a solution for this problem. Make sure you have more than one save file just in case this happens. The location of your save files depends upon your operating system. To find your save game files, read this topic:
http://amaranthia.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?t=278

I can hear background sounds but no music
If you can't hear any music, you may need the latest codec from Microsoft. Microsoft sent out a buggy codec a couple of months ago with WMP v10 that may be causing the problem.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Solution 1 (from amaranth):
Make sure that BGM is turned on in the game. To check:
1. Open Aveyond.
2. Click F1.
3. Make sure that the BGM checkbox is marked.

Solution 2 (from jvallott):
Install the latest WMA codec for your operating system:
1. Go to the Windows Media Download Center.
2. In the Select Download drop-down list, select Windows Media Encoder.
3. In the Select Version drop-down list, select Windows Media Encoder 9 Series.
Note: If the 11 series does not work for you, try series 9.
4. Download and install the codec for your operating system.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Play Aveyond!

Common errors due to external applications
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Error:

AppName: aveyond.rwg AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: mmswitch.ax

Solution:

It looks like a program called Morgan Stream Switcher (MSS) is crashing Aveyond.

Here's what I've learned about this software:
MSS is a Plug-in that lets you to switch audio streams using Windows Media Player 6x-9. It looks like several companies bundle MSS with their software, and sometimes, the software doesn't install properly and can cause problems with media.

My thoughts about MSS:
I've been researching MSS on the web and it seems like lots of people have media conflicts with it. If this is a program that you purposely use, let me know so I can send you links to other programs like MSS that are more stable.

I would remove MMS completely. I've done research on it, and it causes problems for lots of games. As well, it isn't even v1 yet, which means it's still a beta product.
Check out the following thread. Use the steps in the last post to uninstall this unstable software.
http://www.driverheaven.net/archive/index.php/t-6765.html

If you would like to keep MMS installed on your computer, you can download the following ZIP that contains a fix for your problem: MMS Fix (Thank Ilija M. for submitting this!)

Error
AppName: aveyond.rwg AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: audx.ax

Solution
Uninstall AUD-X audio decoder

Notes from player
whenever Aveyond started Aud-x would process the sound. For some reason or another that I can't explain, it seems to have been this program which was causing the huge memory sifting, which seems to coincide with the fact that whenever the music shifted or when a new sound was played, the game started lagging.

Error
Script 'Scene_Load' line 93: EOFError occurred.
End of file reached

Solution
None at the moment. Your save game file got corrupted while it was saving. Make sure to have a backup save file once in a while in case this happens.
